Ukuwela and volunteer first morning

date:  Aug 13, 2024

This morning we went to the sand forest nursery. Kevin explained that the sand forest is mostly endangered and that he and his staff would like to plant the trees again. It si called sand forest because the forest is on sand which comes from the dunes. The sea was here millions of years before. The sand and the sand dunes stayed. In the sand forest you can find a tree called Lebombo Wattle. A very ancient tree.

We arrived at the office of Wild tomorrow. It was a former lodge. They are rebuilding the roof and would like to let the volunteers or researchers from outside stay there instead of renting  the bushcamp for them. Today the task was to get out alient plants in a part of the sand forest.

There is a caterpillar somewhere on the plant. It is very hard to spot.

Me pulling out an alient plant with a lot of force.

…there were hippos on the other side of the river, while we were pulling out the plants. I heard their call. I love it.

Kevin showed us this beautiful little froggy. It is the painted reed frog. I love him.
