Rhino orphanage and looking for the giraffe

Today we went to Zululand Rhino Orphanage for a morning of volunteering at the only private orphanage in the province. Normally closed to the public. But thanks to the parrnership with Wild Tomorrow they are allowing us to come visit and lend a helping hand. We shoveled the rhino pools. We`ve learned a lot about how they care about the rhino babys. When they are three years old, they get rewildered.

Later we went with Greg to the Greater Ukuwela Nature Reserve to look for the baby giraffe that had been darted about a week ago. She was doing well.

We went out for lunch. Nick, Kalee, Ernie, Brie, Joan (to the left). Tori, Rod and Steve to the right. Ann was somewhere else.

Malva pudding! My favourite SA-dessert.

After lunch we drove into the Reserve with Greg and looked for the giraffe.

All The volunteers looking at giraffes.

The giraffe was doing well. We could see that the red mark on her skin was stil there.

Greg explained us a lot about the reserve, the animals and plants…
